It got cold this morning. I dig it; it’s nice, but waking up is a pain in the butthole. Too comfy. Ugh. That being said, I feel like the holidays are coming around the corner like some ominous beast coming to eat us all. A hungry, angry beast made of social contracts, family ties, and politeness forced on us every year because tradition says so.
Yeah, I know, a bit dramatic, but it’s true.
I do look forward to getting some stuff done. Fall break turned into a blur of sleeping and working, banging out home projects and building things. we have to prepare for what’s coming… what that is? Hell if I know.
Fresh off the press — you’ll get to keep your legs
Tuesday, October 13 brought FUGLY: YOU’LL GET TO KEEP YOUR LEGS…, Issue 02, Episode 026.
That’s a reassuring title—practically a customer-service guarantee.
The free weekly webcomic keeps rolling, and this installment is ready whenever you need a little illustrated trouble. If you’re behind, follow the links to previous episodes to catch up. I’m happy to provide the distraction; explaining it to your boss is your department. The top image is even a shirt; check it:
Art, zines and toys — the mountains become a wrestling ring
Inktober Day 9’s RAM put my luchador EL CHUCO against a mutant humanoid ram inspired by the Franklin Mountains Goatman legend. Local folklore, meet professional wrestling. Everybody stretch first.
Day 10 brought REZ, my private eye with access to his past lives. Day 12 had FUGLY throwing MEATHOOK—a potential future scene, not an announced crossover. Then TORA showed up in her dangerously flimsy chainmail.
The prompts are giving different corners of my comic universe room to play. And ART TO THE FACE #33 is still there if you want a bigger helping of sketchbook experiments and handmade weirdness.
On the workbench — drawings looking for their next life
That FUGLY-and-MEATHOOK drawing has me wondering what happens when these characters share a page. Sometimes a prompt gives you a drawing; sometimes it leaves a story idea sitting on your desk. This is prediction of the future, but when?
I’ve also been revisiting older work through the Daily Sketchbook posts: sketchcards, character drawings, and reminders of the different directions a pen can take you. Not everything appearing in the feed was made yesterday. The archive gets to breathe, too.
Readers showed up — and the back catalog has legs.
From October 8–14, Instagram recorded 3,384 content views, 177 likes, 17 comments, and 11 shares. Thank you for spending time with the drawings and sharing them.
GlobalComix’s October 5–11 report counted 80 readers and 131 page reads: more readers than the prior week, but fewer page reads. ART TO THE FACE #33 led its release list with 12 readers, while older issues found readers too.
On YouTube, October 6–12 brought 147 views and 264 minutes watched. Whether you stopped by for comics, sketchbooks, or something from the archives: gracias. For comics GLOBAL COMIX is another way read all things FWACATA, you cna support me there too
Coming next — CALCINATION heads into the galler.y
CALCINATION No. 1 will debut in the 2026–27 Sun Bowl Art Exhibit at the International Museum of Art in El Paso. Built with found objects, acrylic, and ink, it explores what we carry, bury, and burn away to grow.
The opening is Thursday, November 5, from 5–8 p.m., at 1211 Montana Avenue. The exhibition runs through January 17, 2027. The International Museum of Art
Reply and tell me which you want to look at more closely next: the painting, EL CHUCO, or the FUGLY-and-MEATHOOK drawing.
So for now things are cruising. I’m working on Fwacata #4 at a steady but ad nauseam slow pace, as I finish 2 certifications and my Master's degree before the year is out. Biting off more than I can chew is a mantra for sure, but it’s all to build something else. Always. But whatever the case, if you are pursuing your dreams or just making a sandwich, make sure to say an Amen or your version of amen here and there when things go your way, no matter how small. It’ll keep you sane and help you stay able to be happy. Happiness comes and goes, and our ability to hold on to it and get it back is what makes the difference. Have an awesome weekend; see you Monday.
