I used to think a sketchbook was where you go to “practice.”
Like a gym. Like a responsible adult. Like someone who drinks water on purpose.

Turns out it’s more like a crime scene.

This newest ART TO THE FACE issue is a little slice of my studio life—where ideas show up half-dressed, asking for cab fare, and then refuse to leave until you draw them. Some of these pages are clean. Some are feral. Some are the visual equivalent of waking up at 3AM and thinking, “WHY DO OLD PEOPLE WEAR BIG UNDERWEAR?”

Inside you’ll find:

  • Monsters being born from ugly thumbnails (my favorite kind of childbirth)

  • Process scribbles, notes, layouts, little “don’t forget”s that I absolutely forgot

  • Worldbuilding crumbs for Dragonbreath/Essidarius

  • Color experiments where I’m basically flirting with acrylic markers, LIKE they owe me money

  • And the kind of ideas that are… let’s call them morally flexible. Not explicit. Just the sort of concepts that roll up their sleeves, wink, and say, “Relax. It’s art.”

This is the real FWACATA kitchen—not the plated meal. The chopping, the grease, the sparks, the bad jokes, the “why is this working?” moments.

Paid folks get the deeper cuts (and the good weirdness). Free folks still get fed.

Come on. Let’s make something slightly inappropriate and strangely beautiful.
